Glad that you finally got through. Pity that you had to purchase a ticket onward - you can get around that by simply creating a dummy copy of a flight itinerary.

The agents just need to look at a piece of paper that says that you have a ticket, and in this day of electronic tickets that is all they have. Immigration doesn't have access to the booking systems of the airlines, nor do they have the time to look it up. A mate of mine uses dummy copies all of the time.

I used it once coming into Japan, but slightly differently - I booked a real flight through flightcentre, got the itinerary via email and flew a day later. I cancelled the flights from Japan before I paid for them. That way even if someone actually went looking in the system (which they don't), I did actually have an onward ticket booked.

Enjoy yourself back in south america bob. Take care!

Hi Rob and Carol,

Congratulations!!!! Isn't it amazing? From when I first went out Stefan it took us 6 and a half weeks to get engaged so you were a little slow???? I hadn't logged on to your site for a few months so what a surprise!

I'm so excited for you both and I'll be saying lots of prayers for your future happiness.

Love and God Bless,
Sarah

i lived in resistencia for a year before and after my wife and i were married there. she is from resistencia, and we would frequently cross the river to dine at the casinos or river front and watch movies at the casino theaters. our paths intersect again...although at different times. :)

hola querido amigo,

I had the joy to find your homepage thru the YWAM-Webpage and it is really interessting what you are posting. Well I know that is maybe not possible but it would be nice if you could write a note that you received the "reply". El ejercito de salvacion is the church I attend and we really wish that Christians in our country (Switzerland) will have back again the desire to reach the lost souls.

Dios te bendiga ricamente! Cuidate y hasta luego,
Manuela.

Te alabaré mi buen Jesús

Hello my friend.......I love hearing about your journeys Rob and never tire of reading them......but i just thought, after reading your latest 'rob rave'......I really enjoy reading about what Rob is doing but how often does he hear from those who receive them?.....So, sorry bout the 'selfishness' of not saying the hello's and how are you's from time to time!!

Craig, Lauren and Briar are doing well......Lauren is hanging out to have babies, Craig is not ready yet.....maybe next year.....Briar is growing bigger and bigger by the month, hitting her 11th birthday very soon. We are currently busy with our Air New Zealand projects, doing destinations to travel to in the North Island etc.....hard hard work(for me anyway, with sales and loads of work for the production crew) but rewarding for FTN/Visual Appetite with financial income etc.
Anyway Robbie.......love you lots, i pray for you when i think of you in my quiet moments with God.....miss you and looking forward to hearing when you have met 'the one' for you!!! that will be awesome news....yeehah!! Arohanui Lauren, Craig and Briar xxxxx and lots of hugs!!!

Wow Rob! Your travels between Tarija & Entre Rios reminds me of my journey in Sichuan Province, West China recently. The lushness, enticing valleys below, at altitude and magnificently mountainous...any skip a heart beat moments as the bus toots mercilessly when driving blind corners in anticipation??

Hey, I recognize that look! It's the old traditional "outfit for going out on a special occasion" during September-November in Finland! Did I tell you that Nokia started by manufacturing car tyres and RUBBER BOOTS? I had Nokia rubber boots when I was a kid. The boot model in your photo is pretty similar with my good old Nokias. You better get a pair of "las nokias" for yourself too, it sounds pretty wet there, aye!

I have just found a map that covers the journey written about here. It helps to know that Quellon is on the bottom tip of Chiloe Island, which is the first big island to the south of Puerto Montt.
Each red dash works out to be about one hour long.

Yeah, it is a shame about all the gear being destroyed. The way we were hit, it did not matter if we had surge protectors or not. Even the machines with surge protectors were destroyed. Lightning, when it gets into the system, will penetrate through almost anything.

I remember working with an ISP where we had surge protectors and lightning arrestors and earths and the works to try and keep our gear safe. It worked most of the time, but when lightning struck us, we lost virtually everything. It melted the arrestor, and much of the gear behind it too.

So I don't think we really had much of a chance. Our only protection would have been to physically unplug everything from every cable, and this is still what we normally do, but as the storm was still distant, and the lightning completely out of place for the current conditions around us, it caught us unprepared.

a pearl of wisdom: if you "loan" someone an item of yours once, it is theirs to borrow forever. they need only ask one time, then they have open access to it. for your sake, never loan anything to any latino.

You're not having much luck with lightning up there. You need to put all of the expensive electronic gear in the house on a single circuit breaker and anytime it looks like rain just go and reef out that breaker... At least the YWAM base there isn't boring. It could be worse, you could have to lie around the New Caledonia base all day sipping coconut juice and complaining that the surf is too small.

Yep. I loved that trip and will always treasure the memories of it. This photo was certainly a great find, and I am so glad that Jorge took the time to send it to me. Maybe somewhere down the track we will all be able to head out for another trip together... leaving the wife and kids behind, and getting another photo of us three just like this... but with older faces. Then it would be fun to compare photos.

Rob’s Rave » The Evolution of a Classy Bathroom

[...] We found a hand basin in the garbage at one point and rescued it to put in our evolving bathroom. The cracks in the basin didn’t leak and the tap still worked, so it quickly found a home on the wall. Then we decided to get more serious about our little room. Walking over to the building during the middle of winter for a shower was not a wonderful experience, and we had water here, so there seemed to be no reason why we could not have a shower here too. It did not take long before we had put in a shower too. [...]

Dad and I are looking at a rental house at Scarborough...no great you beaut home but will still be home if we get itl We have looked at so many but they are either real dumps or too small or something wrong so this meets all the criteria except the highset bit so we think we may settle jfor it.......not sure yet. We are going out to dinner with John and Moira to celebrate her birthday tonight for tomorrow so should be nice. Well must away now my darling keep believing for TOTAL healing cause we are.
Aloha Robito,
I hope you have a pair of water skis and a boat when you want to go out for shopping :) VERY GOOD PHOTOS MATE! I can totally feel the flood on this side of the screen too! ..and I am glad to be here in the office and have my feet dry. I will enjoy my mate on this side of the world while you are enjoying yours there. I wonder if you are using the cow foot cup that you told me once about? I broke mine and have to use a normal tea cup..what a SHAME but I have to share with you a secret: I can't feel the difference in the taste..don't tell to any Argentine... Have fun there and remember: camera is a friend! ...don't make him swim, he doesn't like it.
