A Wild Adventure Holiday
Today is the first day of our holidays. Adventure holidays. We have a lot planned for this time, Chris and I. And there is very little time to do it all too, but we will squeeze it all in.
Mountain biking, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting, hangliding, rockclimbing, trekking through the Andes mountains, surfing, and diving are all on our agenda. It is a series of about four weeks that we have lined up and should be a lot of fun.
So what is the plan?
Well, it runs something like this:
STAGE 1: From Corrientes we catch a bus to Salta and stay with a friend from our school. He has a leg into the tourist industry here so we are going to use his contacts for some cheap rockclimbing and rafting experiences with a bit of bungee jumping thrown in too. We also plan on hiring a car and checking out some of the tourist spots in this very popular north-west corner of Argentina.
STAGE 2: From Salta we then head down to Mendoza, nestled right up against the Andes mountains. Here is another YWAM base which we hope to make use of, with accomodation and the adventure gear that they have. We have a number of friends in this base and expect that all will be fine. Hmm. That reminds me, we have not warned them that we are coming yet. Must do that. In this place we expect to get more time climbing rocks and also to race some mountain bikes down the Andes ranges.
STAGE 3: Slipping over the ranges to Santiago in Chile, we will spend the day to look around and then race out to Valparaiso on the coast just nearby in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. With such a lovely surf coast, it will be likely that a bit of surfing will fill parts of our lazy days here.
STAGE 4: So many people have told us about Concepcion towards the southern end of Chile that this is a must see stop on our journey. While here Chris wants to finish his diving licence, and I will probably join him in a few dives, and some more surfing seems good. Of course a few good old fashioned tourist days also will be spent just looking around the place and seeing if it matches its fame.
STAGE 5a: From here we head back into Argentina for Bariloche. But since it is so close to New Years Eve, we will jump off the bus in any little town we get to so we can celebrate this day of change with the locals rather than spend it travelling overnight stuck in a bus seat.
STAGE 5b: On reaching Bariloche, we will still have a number of days available to head up into the mountains trekking. We will both be carrying tents and cooking gear, and expect that we will be able to reach some very out-of-the-way wilderness places during this time. Hopefully the photos will reveal some of the beauty that we are expecting to experience during this time.
WILD CARD: At the end of our time in Bariloche we both will head back to Corrientes where we have left a fair bit of our gear. Something that has been stirring in my heart for a while now is to buy a motorbike. This is still a desire more than a search in progress, but if something happens that I do find a bike then I will probably buy it. With two big backpacks, we will then ship them home via bus, and ride our way back through the sideroads to reach Corrientes. But as I said, this is not much more than desire at the moment, and as such is really just a wild card.
So that is our adventure holiday plans. We have just arrived in Salta today and will be out starting our adventure activities tomorrow.
Don't be too envious now. :-)
Rob.
